Potomac Harmony Showtime Chorus was chartered in November 1976 as the result of the consolidation of the former Arlington and Fairfax chapters of Sweet Adelines.  Sweet Adelines International, an independent, nonprofit music education association, is made up of women singers dedicated to performing and teaching the American folk art of four-part harmony, barbershop style.  Founded by four women in 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sweet Adelines International has grown to 30,000 members in more than 1800 registered quartets and 600 choruses in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Japan. Sweet Adelines promotes harmony, friendship, self-esteem, and the sense of belonging among women of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds, and levels of performance readiness.

Barbershop music, with jazz and gospel music, is purely American.  Potomac Harmony performs a variety of music, from traditional favorites to the fifties sound to modern jazz, all in four-part harmony, barbershop style.  In doing so, we preserve a unique American art form.

Our chorus is made up of a diverse group of women from the Washington metropolitan area who all share a love of harmonizing and entertaining in the barbershop style.  Members rehearse weekly to put on professional quality, choreographed performances, and to perfect their singing and performing skills.  Under the direction of Master Director Ozzi Mask, the chorus has been honored for its musical excellence -- five times as regional champions (1990, 1996, 2002, 2004, and 2006) and many times as a top-five medalist at the annual regional competition.  We had the honor of representing our region at international competition in Detroit, Michigan, in October 2005.  In Regional Competition in April 2006 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, we were the proud recipients of the first place medal, becoming 2006 Region 14 Chorus Champions.   We represented Region 14 at International Competition in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in October 2007.

Potomac Harmony Showtime Chorus is dedicated to putting on high-quality shows for local audiences and we participate in numerous community activities including the Arlington County Fair, the Lubber Run Amphitheater Summer Program, and Ballston Common Shopping Mall Holiday Celebration.  The chorus also presents  an Annual Show for the general public and performs for local nursing facilities, hospitals, hospices, and other nonprofit organizations.  In addition to performing for local groups, the chorus has been invited to share this traditional art form at special events, such as the Open House for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the 200th Anniversary Celebration of the Constitution at the National Archives, a celebration honoring local 1996 Olympians, the opening ceremonies of the Cherry Blossom Festival, and the National Botanical Gardens.  Potomac Harmony has been featured on "Good Morning America" (ABC), "Capitol Edition" (WUSA), and "Arlington Alive" (Arlington Cable Television).  We have also performed in shows along with men's choruses including the Historyland Barbershop Chorus in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and the Alexandria Harmonizers, Alexandria, Virginia.
